Israeli forces closed in on Gaza City (pictured above) yesterday, pressing home the ground assault against Hamas in the face of desperate diplomatic efforts to broker a ceasefire.
As the death toll rose towards 550, Hamas leaders remained defiant, promising to “fight on in the name of God”. Hamas “must lay the foundation for a tomorrow without Zionists”.
